Batman raw art painting.

As a child I was always fascinated by the comic book character "Batman". Unlike Superman, the Batman character didn't have any super powers. The thing that amazed me about the Batman character was his unique fighting skills, his highly advanced gadgets, and the dark quality of his persona (a Freudian fascination of my own mind).

Another aspect about the Batman character that drew my attention was his private life as Bruce Wayne. On the surface Bruce Wayne was the person that most men and young boys fascinate about. Bruce Wayne was good looking, smart, confidant, and wealthy - like James Bond.

However, as I've grown up and given up such fascinations. I've set about exploring a new aspect of Batman (in my paintings) that very few people think about. A question that I've explored is, what would be the real psychological ramifications if Batman were a real person?

The idea of a "real" human superhero fighting crime would probably be a disturbing one. I imagine that a genuine Batman would experience an enormous level of stress dealing with madmen and dangerous criminals. There would be great pressure placed upon him by society to save the world - not to mention ridicule. Futhermore, the idea of balancing his private life as Bruce Wayne and a crime fighter would certainly result in mental and physical fatigue.

What we would probably end up with is an individual that would develop serious psychological problems. Chances are that Batman would have to pay regular visits to a psychiatrist and take perscibed medication for depression and frequent nervous breakdowns.

Obviously, I'm taking a wild guess here. However, considering the trauma experienced by combat soldiers and police officers. The chances are great that Batman would develop such serious mental disorders. If not... then a more disturbing set of circumstances need to be considered.

That Batman is one crazy psychotic Mother F****R!!!!

Home Art Studio Space

Creating a home art studio from home can be a challenge - especially if you don't have the space. However, if you do have the space, then with a little creativity you can go a long way.

For the most part, the most commonly used spaces for an art studio would be the bedroom, the study, or the garage. I, in my case, have tried all spaces. I've transitioned from the garage, to the bedroom, the study area and then to the garage.

Your choice of space will be dependent upon two factors. The first one would be availability of space and the second to consider will be your style of creating art.

Obviously, before you set up your art studio you need to see if that space is available in terms of space. For example, before I used my bedroom as a studio, I had to create space for my desk, easel, and artwork.

What I did was to move and organize many of the things that occupied the bedroom. I set about organizing things, getting rid of the junk we didn't need and putting certain items in the garage or available closet spaces in the house.

Organizing the garage can be a bit challenging since generally most people store an enormous amount of things in their garage. To organize my garage, I set up metal shelves on the garage walls and bought large plastic containers to place many of the contents in the garage. Then I placed the containers on the wall shelves giving me plenty of room for my art studio.

Your style of work will also determine where you need to place your home art studio. For example, are you, a messy painter or a neat freak that needs everything organized? If you're a compulsive about cleanliness then chances are that you will need to set up your home art studio in an available bedroom.

Being a raw artist I use lots of paints and materials. Therefore, I need to have my home art studio in the garage. One word of caution, though, if you do plan to set up your art studio in the garage then be prepared for a lot of outside debris to enter your garage. If you're not crazy about constantly cleaning chances are a bedroom or study space is best for you.

Whatever you decide to choose, remember that it's all about creating art and no amount of space or lack there of, should prevent you from creating what you passionately feel inside.

The Raw Art of Melancholy

It is within the deepest part of my soul that melancholy emerges. An emotion deeply imbedded within that seeks expression. The shear joy that I experience from my own tortured soul being able to fully emerge and show its head to the world is what I seek. Witnesses run in fear as they flee that which torments them within.

I ask myself… am I an alien to my own emotions? Does not the world of men experience what I see? Is it mans desire to flee from his own grief?

Tell me… do you see what I see?

Do you feel what I feel?

Is it your goal to hide from despair?

Life is painful!

It is only when we run from pain that we hurt the strongest. It is when we deny our own pain that we hurt others the most. Do you not see the world that you’ve created? The bare bones of our victim have been devoured. The opportunity for redemption is lost. Look within thy soul for liberation. Do not seek faulty religion, false prophets or chemical gods.

True liberation comes from within. To bear witness to your pain is to release your shackles. Open up to your savior within, because it is only you who will save yourself.

Raw Art

Raw art is about purity and expressiveness that knows no boundaries. Fundamental and academic standards are thrown out the window

…. anything goes!!!

It takes guts to launch oneself into the path of raw creativity, because to take this path is to expose to the world the internal makeup of our emotions in its purest form.

Raw art is not for everyone. It’s not for the artist who’s fixated upon conformity of standards and certainly not for the squeamish viewer which shares this common view.

Raw art is not pretty, friendly or inviting. It is a pure and rugged form of creativity that says….

“BAMMMM!!!! HERE I AM!!!!

Most importantly raw art can be done with any level of education. Toss out academic beliefs and mediums, throw away your paint brushes and your fancy expensive paint. Get a stick, worn out and dirty brushes, grab some dirt and industrial paint and say what you got to say. Let the world hear you and say….

… GET OUTTA MY WAY!!!!
